INEC: 73. 5 Million Voters Eligible For Election

SAN FRANCISCO, March 03, (THEWILL) – 73.5 million voters have been cleared to vote in the April 2011 general election, according to the final voter register made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall the commission had a few days ago tentatively released a figure of 67, 764, 334.

The final register shows an increase of about 5.7 million voters.

The northwest zone recorded the highest number of eligible voters with 19,803,689 with the southwest coming second with 14,296,163 voters.

The northeast recorded 10,749,059 registered voters; north central

10,684,037; south-south 9,474,427, while the southeast recorded 7,577, 214.

INEC said 870, 612 registrants engaged in double registration with Katsina and Niger States recording the highest numbers of infringers (132, 062 and 142, 040 respectively). The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ogun State recorded the lowest numbers of double registrants with 953 and 2,868 registrants.
