LAGOS, Feb 14, (THEWILL) - A coalition of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) today made good its threat to picket the head office of Union Bank Plc.

But normal banking activities resumed at the Bank’s branches following the picketing of the head office in Lagos this morning.

The picketing was led by the NLC National President, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, but was aborted midway as security personnel prevented union members from gaining access into the bank premises.

Security personnel were still present to forestall any break down of law and order.

Staff and customers of the bank were subjected to questioning to ascertain the genuineness of their transactions while persons without proper identifications were prevented from entering the bank.

Secretary General of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), Mr. Obukese Orere, said the leadership of the NLC held a meeting with the Lagos State police authorities.

Orere said despite several notifications on their grievances, the management of the bank has refused to create an avenue for dialogue.
