ABUJA, Feb 09, (THEWILL) - The Senate today issued a warrant for arrest of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Yusuf Suleiman. The Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim was directed to produce Suleiman on February 15.

In the warrant addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Senate Adhoc Committee on the Investigation of the Transportation Sector, dated February 9, with reference number NASS-NPF/2011/02 and signed by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri as Chairman and Obong Akpan as Clerk to the Committee, it said; "Pursuant to Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a WARRANT is hereby issued by the Ad-hoc Committee on the investigation of the Transportation Sector, Senate of the Republic of Nigeria, for the arrest and compelling of attendance of: Yusuf Suleiman- Minister of transport….

'Mr. Yusuf Suleiman should be produced by the Nigeria Police Force to the Committee on 15th February, 2011 at Meeting Room 415, New Senate Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

"The Warrant is to be executed by the Nigeria Police Force.”

No reason was given for the warrant of arrest.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan today forwarded the names of Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim and Mr. Aghatise Erediauwa as Managing Director and Executive Director (Operations) respectively, as nominees for Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

Also the President asked the Senate to confirm Chief Kalu Uko as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission to complete the remainder of the term of office of Dr. D. C. Nwachukwu from South East.
