Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Aminu Bello Masari, and ex- minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Dr. Abba Sayyadi Rumah have lost out in the governorship race of the congress of Progressive Party (CPC) in Katsina State.

Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, who had earlier emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the party before the latest primaries of the CPC held at the weekend, has been elected the party's flag bearer among the four aspirants that participated in the exercise.

The Senator, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently, polled 98,953 votes, followed by Alhaji Mannir Yakubu with 23, 390 votes, Abubakar Ismaila Isa 13,885 and Aminu Masari 13,020 votes, Dr, Rumah withdrew from the race.

Before the emergence of Rumah as the fifth aspirant in the race, Masari's camp expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the consensus arrangement that had earlier led to the choice of Danmarke as the consensus candidate of the committee of six elders of the party.

The result of last Saturday's primaries was announced by the Returning Officer who is also the national vice chairman, CPC, North-west, Suleiman Adamu.

The CPC big wig also declared the result of the National Assembly primaries conducted along side the governorship race in which Senator Abdul Yandoma picked the ticket of Katsina North Senatorial district, while Ahmad Sani Store and Senator Abu Ibrahim emerged the torch bearers in Katsina Central and Katsina South Senatorial districts respectively.

Former Senate leader, Senator M.T. Liman, who succeeded Senator Abu Ibrahim in 2003, however, lost his bid to contest for the seat he lost in 2007 to Senator Danmarke.

Other National Assembly ticket holders of the party that emerged at the weekend in Katsina include Muntari Dandutse, who resigned his chairmanship of Funtua Local Government Council on the platform of PDP to seek the flag for Funtua-Dandume Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Similarly, the recently defected PDP member of the state House of Assembly, Tasiu Doguru also picked the ticket for Mashi-Dutse Federal Constituency among other candidates.

Speaking shortly after emerging victorious, Senator Danmarke sought the cooperation and support of other governorship hopeful and stakeholders in the party to ensure the success of the CPC  in the home state of the party leader and presidential flag bearer, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Danmarke also identified security, employment generation and poverty alleviation as top on his agenda for the state if he emerged successful in the general polls.
