ALL is now set for the 3rd edition of the yearly Ships And Ports Soccer Challenge, tagged Maritime Cup 2011. This year's edition will run until March 19, 2011.

The competition is organised by Ships And Ports Communication Company Limited to promote cordial relations within the Nigerian maritime industry. This year's competition is expected to attract entries from about 20 teams from across the industry.

The teams will vie for the over N1million prize money and trophies at stake.

According to the coordinator of the competition, Eucharia Okoli, the overall winner of the Maritime Cup 2011 will receive a cash prize of N500,000.00.

Okoli explained that the second place winner would smile home with N300,000.00, while the third place winner will get N200,000.00 prize money.

She announced that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer awardees would also get prizes.

The first edition of the Ships And Ports Soccer Challenge was staged in 2009 and won by the Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy (NN).

Last year, leading stevedoring company, Micura Services Limited, defeated the NN Western Naval Command to lift the Maritime Cup 2010. A total number of 14 teams participated in last year's challenge.
