The Anambra State Government has awarded contracts valued at N2.15bn for the construction of the New Tarzan-Nkpor-Osumenyi Street, Omagba, Onitsha; and the Enugwu-Agidi-Nawgu-Achalla road.

The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Chief Maja Umeh, disclosed this on Tuesday at the post-State Executive Council press briefing in Awka, the state capital.

He also disclosed that the council had directed that the contracts for the construction of the Ichi road that was earlier terminated should be re-awarded.

Worried about the slow pace of work on the reconstruction of the Onitsha-Enugu Federal Expressway, the commissioner said that street trading along the New Parts market section had been banned.

He also said that the Federal Road Safety Corps had been directed to assist the government in clearing the streets of road obstructions in order to ensure a hitch-free operation by the contractors.

In a related development, the News Agency of Nigeria reports indicated that the Federal Government has awarded a N300m contract for the rehabilitation of the abandoned water projects in Ebonyi.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Anyim Udeh, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akaeze in the Ivo Local Government Area of the state.

The projects include the Afikpo Water Scheme, Ebunwana Rural Water Scheme, Akaeze Rural Water Scheme and the Okposi Water Scheme.

According to him, all the projects are to improve the welfare of the people.
