By NBF News

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Onyeabo Ihejirika, has said that the Nigerian Army must refocus its logistics training to cater for internal security operations in aid of civil authority.

He said this was in line with his vision to transform the Nigerian Army into a better force, capable of meeting contemporary challenges.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ihejirika was quoted as saying this at the graduation of Logistics Management Course 8/2010 at the NA College of Logistics in Lagos.

The COAS said, 'It is important that we continue to pursue with vigour the development of middle-level cadre officers on the rudiments of logistics to meet up with contemporary challenges in the conduct of military operations, especially against the backdrop of technology advancement.

'The nation is faced with internal security threats arising from the menace of kidnapping, armed banditry, Boko Haram, sectarian violence and other forms of terrorism.'

At the event, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, represented by Major Babatunde Panos (rtd), urged the graduating officers to use their newly-acquired knowledge in logistics management to assist the armed forces in rapid deployment of personnel and materials to areas of need.
