UYO, Dec 01, (THEWILL) - The National House of Representatives member representing Itu/Ibiono federal constituency in Akwa Ibom State, the Hon. Ita Enang has quelled the fears of some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) saying that the emergence of the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the NPLF consensus candidate for the North will not affect the unity of the PDP as the party has not chosen a consensus candidate for the 2011 presidential poll.

Enang who is presently the Chairman House Committee on Business and Rules and an aspirant for the Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Senatorial seat in the upper House spoke during the inauguration ceremony of his campaign committee in his Uyo constituency office complex

The federal lawmaker said that though the PDP is yet to choose a consensus candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan clearly stands ahead of Atiku and other contestants for the Presidency in the 2011 election.

“PDP has no consensus candidate yet, the leading candidate and the only for now is Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, he will pick the ticket and go on to win the election.

“When other persons come to contest, we will find out; have you contested before? Were you a candidate in 2007 elections? What party did you stand? If you were a candidate of Action Congress, you can’t come and inherit what others have laboured for. We will consider all these before anybody emerges but anybody is free to contest,” Enang stressed.

“Atiku is not a threat to the unity of the party and is not a threat to the candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan, let us even look at it; all those who are campaigning for him are members of Action Congress of Nigeria, this were the same people who jubilated when elections was declared few days back in Ekiti State in favour of ACN, the same people are nominating a candidate on the plat form of PDP do you want to bring the ACN structure into PDP? He asked

The Uyo Senatorial District aspirant who also called for the support of the people for his aspiration, expressed optimism that he will emerge as the next senator of the senatorial district adding that he has all that it takes to represent the people in the upper House, considering his achievements in the lower House.

“Here am I send me, I have the fix deposits to represent you in the Senate; that is, my head and my mouth, I have used it to represent Itu/Ibiono in the House of Representatives,” Enang said.

He however frowned at the fact that the incumbent Senator Effiong Bob is using his membership of the ECOWAS parliament which he said expired on November 13th as a yardstick to contest for a third term on the seat saying that the nomination is normally zoned even as it was the turn of Akwa Ibom hence his nomination and will not come back to state for some time.

“It annoys me, he sees the people of Uyo Senatorial District as ignorant people, his membership in ECOWAS Parliament was not for life, and it expired since November 13th,” Enang stressed.
