Gov Akpabio gets Major Endorsement...Free Education is Center Stage
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio today in Uyo got a major backing for the 2011 polls, as he was endorsed by Uyo Senatorial district.
This is coming on the heels of his determination to ensure free and compulsory primary education in the state.
Present at the event were top PDP chieftains like Don Etiebet, Hon Ita Ennang, Senator Bob Effiong, the Secretary to Government, Ummana Ummana, and the Governor's spouse, Mrs Ekaette Akpabio.
Various speakers acknowledged the efoorts of Akpabio who has made it a rule to spend 80 percent of the state's budget on capital projects.
Akpabio who has had a fiery and sinister opposition to contend with spent N50 Billion on making free education a reality. N35 Billion was used for provision of classrooms and libraries, while N15 Billion went into supply of text and work books.
The Akpabio's administration is also to provide adult education for those unlettered adults who desire education. It will be free.
Over N15 Billion has so far been spent on rural electrification. When pointblanknews visited some villages, power outage was applauded by those spoken with.
