EKITI PDP REJECTS FAYEMI'S DISSOLUTION OF LGs

By NBF News

Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has faulted the dissolution of local government administrations in the state by Governor Kayode Fayemi and directed all the local government chairmen and their councilors to discountenance the purported dissolution.

The party said the action of the governor was illegal, immoral and unconstitutional. Chairman of the state PDP, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo, in a statement made available to newsmen, explained that the governor did not have any constitutional backing in dissolvingĀ  councils that were legally constituted neither did he have moral justification to do so without recourse to the state House of Assembly.

Governor Fayemi had last week announced the dissolution of the local government councils.

However, according to the Chairman, 'the councils as constituted cannot be dissolved without the decision of the two third members of the state House of Assembly who are presently on official trip to Germany; so where does he derive the power?

Olu-Ojo lamented that the action of Dr. Fayemi was very sad and unfortunate that governor who claimed to be an apostle of rule of law and human rights crusader had turned against the law flagrantly without minding the consequences.

The party boss wondered why the mandate given to the 16 chairmen of the local governments and the 177 councilors by the people of Ekiti State could just be withdrawn by fiat by somebody who sworn to defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He warned Governor Fayemi against actions that could throw Ekiti State into chaos, adding that the party would not accept any illegality and would mobilize against any form of it.
