A 24 year-old Nollywood star, Cyril Irobuonya, has drowned during the shooting of a film on Benin River, Koko in Delta State. The actor, according to sources, fell off a speedboat he had boarded during the shooting of the film. The speedboat was said to have run into high waves and almost capsized. “It was at this point that Cyril fell off and could not be rescued immediately,” said one of our sources who witnessed the incident, adding that he died before rescuers could reach him.

It was further gathered that after his corpse was recovered from the river, his aged father ordered for his burial by the bank of the river in line with the tradition of the community.

Sources at the Koko Divisional Police Headquarters disclosed that autopsy on the remains of Cyril attributed the death to a asphyxiation through drowning.

In a related development, another young man identified as Chiedu Ejiofor has reportedly drowned in River Oba at Emu in Aniocha local government area of Delta state barely an hour after attending a wedding ceremony in Emu town.

Chiedu, who had accompanied the wedding train, was by the bank of the river to assist in washing a Nissan Blue Bird car with registration number Imo 757 RWO when the incident occurred.

Police sources stated that Chiedu, for unknown reasons, abandoned his friends and suddenly jumped into the river.

Divers who searched for him in the river later recovered his dead body which was later deposited at a private mortuary in Ashaka road for autopsy.
