Preparations are underway for the launching of the first ever Nigerian Musical Video Awards slated for December 2, 2007 at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos.

According to Mr. Cally Ikpe the National Coordinator of NMNA who spoke with the press recently, the evolution of the Nigerian culture and entertainment industry has come a long, but tortuous way and the outcome has been rewarding and the struggle has also been worthwhile.

He stressed that the progress of today cannot be sustained without the establishment and monitoring of a reliable system of measuring and reappraising standards and capacities.

The coordinator of the event said “The exploits of Nigerian Videos in Africa, Europe and North America in the past decade have earned for the country reasonable levels of reckoning.”

He noted that it is an established fact today too that Nigerians exerts some reasonable levels of cultural influences one way or the other on Africans both at home and in the Diaspora.

The awards according to the Benue State born producer is meant to recognise and reward particularly the outstanding creators of music videos in Nigeria. He said in the up coming event, the organisers will be judging videos that were produced between January 2005 to 2007.

He however contended that subsequently, it will just be a video that has been produced within a year of the award because it is going to be an annual event. Mr. Ikpe stressed that the event will turn out to be the best organised music event in Africa.
