NIGCOMSAT BOSS GETS SARDAUNA AWARD

The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) has conferred a leadership award of excellence and patriotism on the Managing Director of the Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited, Engr. Timasaniyu Ahmed-Rufai, tagged: 'The Sardauna Award'. It was conferred on the Chief Executive during a courtesy call recently at the corporate headquarters of the NIGCOMSAT Ltd, along Airport Road, Lugbe.

Leading the delegation, made up of the Executives, President, Comrade Ibrahim Alih said the award was in celebration of an icon and a technological guru who has given in kind to the society. He said it has been proved that the strength of a man's character is not where he stands at the time of comfort but his belief in the future even in the faces of surmountable challenges.

Stating that compelled by the exceptional character and leadership qualities of Rufai, who has made himself an available tool for national development and integration, they dared to say that his quintessential, detribalized and amiable personality is a pillar of hope to the upcoming generation of youth who are regarded as the leaders of tomorrow.

The Youth leader informed his host that their perusal of Ahmed-Rufai's encyclopaedia revealed that apart from his transparent, accountable, dedicated, courageous and accommodating leadership at NIGCOMSAT, he has helped to deliver good results in the areas of enhanced telecommunication system through the satellites, effective policing of citizenry and properties that are usually destroyed due to lack of communication, as well as created wealth for young Nigerians and others through the provision of job opportunity and basic amenities.

Comrade Alih also stated that rebranding Nigeria cannot be without mentioning and appreciating Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of human endeavours hence the emergence of Ahmed-Rufai as the winner of the prestigious award. The award, according to him, was for patriots and heroes of freedom who have made enormous sacrifices for the unity and oneness of Nigeria especially in the reconstruction and re-engineering of the largest and most populated country in Africa.

The students therefore reiterated the fact that the award recipient, Engr. Rufai, is one of the few exceptional personalities who have distinguished themselves in every ramification. They said Engr. Rufai is seen in the academic circle as an emerging Isaac Newton in the world of discovery, and urged him to use his office to intensify efforts in developing Nigeria's Communication Satellite, which will hopefully usher in greater opportunity for students and youth in the future to come.
