"Label Owners Should Partner With Artistes, Not Control Them" – Stan Alieke Advocates For Fair Deals
Popular Nigerian lawyer Stan Alieke has declared that the current label and artiste management system is ineffective in the Nigerian music industry.
In a post on his Instagram story, the lawyer argued that label owners acting as sole proprietors of artistes is no longer sustainable. He advised label owners to consider partnership models with artistes and talents instead.
He explained that such partnerships should grant artistes a stake or co-ownership in the label rather than treating them as mere employees. Alieke emphasized that this approach has proven more successful over time.
He wrote:
"At this point, we can all see that Label/ artistes management is not working out in the Nigeria music scene. Label owners being the sole bosses/ owners of the artistes is no longer working. Label owners/Managers should instead try a partnership with artistes/talents. The arrangement whereby the artistes/ talents will have a stake or be co-owners is the label & not just being a mere employee of the label. This has proven to work compared to label owners/managers owning 100% of the label. It's only a fool that will keep trying the same thing & expecting different results."
