THE nation's movie industry may benefit from the appointment of popular actor and member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Richard Mofe Damijo as legal adviser to the Delta State government.

According to the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ejike Asiegbu, "some of his colleagues are taking advantage of their fame in the industry and also in the wealth of experience they have gathered prior to their present career". He affirms that Damijo has set the stage as an exemplary figure to his colleagues in the industry thereby bringing about the need to take advantage of their fame. He believes that the actor would effectively put to use, the wealth of knowledge he has gathered as a second degree holder of Law in the University of Lagos.

He believes that Richard has paid his full dues as a movie actor and will nevertheless extend his influence to the frontiers of Delta State government in the best possible way.

A film actor and close associate of Damijo, Anthony Ofili-Akpom, spoke on the positive impact the new appointment would have on individuals in the movie industry. "A lot of individuals in the industry are challenged by this appointment, some of them see it in the light of a thing they can achieve, if an actor like Richard could have achieved it."

Essentially, the new appointment has exposed actors and actresses to opportunities awaiting them in the society provided they play their roles as artistes diligently. Examples are abound of artistes such as Hilda Dokubo, who was once in the movie industry, but later joined politics in River State, Port Harcourt.

Also Sola Omole a broadcaster in NTA but is currently the general manager of an oil company.
