JOS, Sept 04, (THEWILL) - Plateau State Governor, Jonah David Jang, has approved the appointment of Professor Nenfort Gomwalk as acting Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Bokkos.

Until his appointment, Professor Gomwalk was a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State.

The appointment followed the recommendation of the governing council of the university following the expiration of the tenure of the former Vice Chancellor, Professor John Wade.

A statement from the Director of Press of the institution, James Mannok, said the governing council of the university has also approved the appointment of Mr. Christopher Longpoe as the acting Registrar of the university following the expiration of the tenure of the former Registrar, Sir John Fomwul.

Governor Jang thanked the former Vice Chancellor and Registrar for their services to the university.

The university was closed down by the state governor and only recently reopened after he was compelled by a court and the state’s House of Assembly to do so.

THEWILL gathered that the governing council of the university had earlier approved that the tenure of the former VC be extended for six months to enable him complete the admission of students and the recruitment of staff which he had started, but was Jang rejected the move.

The VC had fallen out with the state governor after the latter had unilaterally shut the university in 2007.

The university was shut due to political reasons, as it was established by the former governor of the state, Chief Joshua Dariye.
