Actor, Hanks Anuku Clarifies Video Insinuating He Was Mentally Unstable
Popular Nigerian veteran actor, Hanks Anuku, has spoken on the viral video which insinuated to many that he was embattled with mental illness.
Recall that a viral video in 2022 showed the actor donning torn clothes, while speaking to himself, which led many to claim that he was mentally unwell.
Due to the viral video, many of his colleagues claimed he was mentally ill and tried to avoid him, though a fellow filmmaker, Shan George stated that the actor was not suffering from mental illness, but many of the veteran's actor's refused to believe her stance.
Hanks Anuku has spoken up on the controversial issue, as he stated that the motive behind the video was to immerse himself in the role of a mad man he was to act as in a movie. The actor disclosed this in a chat with content creator, Lucky Udu.
The actor revealed that the video dented his image and made people avoid him, which utterly ruined his career as an actor.
He said;
“I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play, a madman role. Someone who was not in his correct senses or right frame of mind,” Anuku said.
“So I had to go naturally visit the environment on how I would play it in that same neighbourhood. I was just showing the way the director wanted me to do it, meditating and getting into character.
“I lost friends, producers no longer contacted me for jobs. I lost a lot of money, I lost jobs, and I was jobless. People did not care about me. It was God who directed my footsteps to a good soul.
“I went through pain, if you were in my shoes you would feel it. I was heartbroken for these people to do this to me.”
