KANO, Sept 01, (THEWILL) - The Immediate past commandant of the Kano State Shari’ah body popularly known as "Hisbah", Ustaz Abubakar Rabo Abdulkarim has escaped death in the hands of an irate mob after he was allegedly seen trying to have a sex with a minor in Kano.

Ustaz Abdulkarim who is current Director General of the state Film and Censorship Board has claimed that the girl found with him was his niece and that he was not having an unholy affair with her.

It took the intervention of the police in Kano to rescue him from the ire of the mob last Sunday night. The police would not give the name of the minor nor provide her age.

Abdulkarim was said to have failed to give a convincing explanation to a contingent of policemen on night patrol after he was seen with a minor inside his car curiously behind a shopping complex along Maiduguri road in Kano metropolis.

As the policemen moved to arrest him, he sped off knocking down an unidentified official of the Kano History and Culture Bureau who was riding a motorcycle.

THEWILL gathered that the damage to his car forced him to stop leaving him at the mercy of an angry mob made up mostly of commercial motorcycle riders who took the law into their hands by assaulting him before policemen from the Hotoro Police Division came to his rescue.

Ustaz Rabo Abdulkarim was thereafter detained briefly at the Hotoro police Division where a written statement was obtained from him.

Sources said Abdulkarim has jetted to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj, while the Kano Police Commissioner, Mohammed Gana has promised to get the facts from his men at the Hotoro police Division.
