SLAINED ILAWE YOUTH IS AN LG STAFF, NOT A POLITICIAN – EKITI LG BOSS

The Chairman of Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Engr.

Gbenga Ogunleye has described comments by opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and its governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on the murder of Mr. Kunle Ayaga in Ilawe-Ekiti, last week as uncharitable and mischievous, saying; “Kunle Ayaga, who was a civil servant until his death could not have at the same time been an House of Assembly aspirant under any political party.”

The council boss in a statement issued today, urged opposition politicians in the State to desist from playing dirty politics with the misfortune of Kunle Ayaga's family and the people of Ilawe-Ekiti, adding that; “It is wrong, mischievous, self-serving and wicked for the murder of someone who was until his death a local government staff in the State to be given political colouration.”

“I am baffled by the kind of politics that we play in this State.

Kunle Ayaga was a staff of Ekiti West Local Government until three weeks ago when he was transferred to Moba Local Government. The last salary he received was paid by my local government. How then do you describe such a person as a card carrying member of a political party not to talk of being an aspirant?

“I am not a civil servant, but I know that civil servants are barred from even belonging to any political party not to talk of being and aspirant.

“But one is not amused by antics like this from the ACN people. They did same when one Ahmed, who was returning from his farm, was killed by stray bullet in Oye-Ekiti during the build-up to the rerun governorship election. They quickly took a full page adverts in newspapers, claiming that the said Ahmed was their party member.

“Today, it is a civil servant that they are laying claim to and I just pray that they won't be jeopardising Kunle Ayaga family's chance of getting whatever entitlements that might be due to him as a civil servant,” Ogunleye said.

While calling on the police to make sure that the police officer alleged to be responsible for the shot that killed Ayaga is made to face the full wrath of the law, Ogunleye said; “We are pained by Kunle's sudden death and if you have been listening to radio, you must have heard the announcements sponsored by the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ekiti West Local Government chapter.

“We mourn him and we can only continue to pray for the repose of his soul and that God should console the family and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
