DAY MUMA GEE TREKKED TO ENUGU IN SEARCH OF A HUSBAND

Traditional African singer, Muma Gee, added another feather to her cap in Enugu, penultimate Saturday when she deployed her singing talent to pick a husband. The delectable singer, who performed at the final round of this year's edition of the concert itinerary, tagged, Star Trek and held at the Presidential Hotel, settled for the young chap called Ukachukwu, an indigene of Ogidi, Anambra State.

The young school leaver was among the legion of music lovers who thronged the venue of the concert sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc.

Like a man who had a date with destiny, the youth had no inking of what fate had in store for him when he joined other music fans that morning in a dancing competition hurriedly put together by the Ikwere, Rivers State born singer, to determine whom she would eventually tie the nuptial with.

At the end of the breath-taking competition, Ukachukwu emerged winner by a majority decision. An elated Muma Gee raised her hands and announced to the crowd, "I have finally found my husband, and soon we will be getting married."

Those who thought that the exercise was a mere side attraction and for audience participation, were almost taken aback when Muma and her stage spouse were locked in a long drawn out embrace. In fact, the musician dared the audience that she would kiss the young man openly; if only to prove a point. Ukachukwu, who spotted a grey suit that morning went home with Muma Gee's C.Ds. That was after Muma performed a love song for her hubby.

Decked in a beaded blouse and a black flowing skirt, Muma Gee's outing which featured her popular song Kade apparently set the stage for the hip-hop duo P-Square to take the concert to its climax. Spotting their customary funky jacket, atop blue baggy jeans, Peter and Paul met the crowd's great expectation that made them defied the downpour earlier in the day to make it to the venue.
The twin brothers, who are popular for their hit track, Busy Body stormed the stage with a teaser; a dance choreography; before doing a meddley of songs they had lined up for the outing.

The duo whose inclusion in the show was an home coming opened with another number, Temptation before driving the whole crowd wild with their last C.D entitled Get Squared. E don happen, Story, also taken from their last album also featured before they took their segment to its climax with Busy Body. That the group kept the well disciplined Enugu audience busy through their 30minutes display, made the job of the ghetto king, Daddy Showkey, a veteran of Star Trek easy.

But before Showkey took the concert to the early morning, another homeboy and anchor man, Abagana, had saved the day from a long delay caused by the down pour. The ace comedian thrilled the audience with jokes. The comedian, who is fast becoming a household name in the entertainment circle, took charge and ensured there was no dull moment, while the fans waited patiently for the rain to subside. By the time the show moved from the poolside to the open field, there was much music to savour.

The opening performance came from an upcoming raggae artiste, by the name Fire. Sequel to his outing, Shine Band, who were runner-up at this years edition of Star Quest came on stage. The Jewel Band, winner of the contest proved that their victory was no fluke, when they performed the track Afrogbedu dancer. The song saw the audience yearning for more. Lead singer for the band; Abia State-born, Palmelda, showed the trappings of a great star with her stage craft and vocal ability.

Another promising singer, who trilled the crowd, was the Afropop singer Davina. The female singer, who made her Star Trek debut in this year's itinerary, was not a disappointment as she treated the crowd to fascinating numbers, Eloyo, Aye nĂ­reti, Adura (prayer). The zenith of her outing was the time she did Do something, a funky track which saw the youths wriggled their waists in ecstacy.

There is no doubt that the Enugu Star Trek was a thrilling experience for lovers of the prime beer and the sponsor whose mission was to use the show to enliven the social atmosphere and celebrate Star as core values of fun, and brightness. And in line with tradition, lucky consumers of the beer smiled home with exciting prizes, including the cash prize of N100,000, a deep freezer , 29-inch colour T.V, and a 2.5 KVA generator.
