Police Arrest Plateau Village Head With AK 47 Guns

JOS, August 04, (THEWILL) - The village head of Nassarawa in Langtang South Local Government area of Plateau State, Chief Danterl Bongwat was today arrested with AK 47 guns and other items by the police. 11 other persons were arrested with him.


Plateau Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba said intelligence reports indicate that the guns were snatched from security agents.


He said the police had been on the trail of a gang of robbers that specialize in invading barracks to steal weapons.


The village head was arrested because he bought an AK 47 rifle and its ammunition from one of the suspects for the sum of N260, 000. The rifle was identified as the one stolen from a police constable in the barracks.


Items recovered from the 12 persons include two AK 47 Rifles, a magazine containing 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three telephone handsets and a laptop.


Those arrested include: Nanfir Nanfa, Nawchat Joseph, Zingafa Kundul, Napkur Levomg, Dapakaya Sheni, Nimlyat Rimfa, Changdul Bindal, Yonga Samson, Ladan Nafa, and Danjuma Mallam.


The officers from whom the guns and ammunition were stolen from are facing various disciplinary actions from the police.


The police commissioner said the suspects would be made to face the full weight of the law at the completion of investigations into their case.
