Abortion Rights: Celebrities, Others React Over Legal Matter

In 1973, the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States would protect a woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion. However, that changed this week after the US Supreme Court overturned the Roe v Wade ruling which has been in place for almost 50 years.

The overturning of this ruling on Friday (June 24th) means that millions of women across America will lose their constitutional right to abortion.

Under the new rules, individual states will be able to choose whether they want to ban the procedure or allow abortions to take place.

Lots of celebrities have taken to social media to react to the ruling, including Harry Styles, Britney Spears, amongst others.

Styles shared his opinion via his Twitter handle, "I’m absolutely devastated for the people of America today. Check on your friends. Look after each other,”

“We’re all in this together, and the fight is just beginning. A truly dark day for America,” the star continued," he wrote.

The singer also shared a post from former First Lady Michelle Obama who has spoken out about her “heartbreak” following the decision

“I am heartbroken for people around this country who just lost the fundamental right to make informed decisions about their own bodies,” she wrote in a post that has been shared by thousands on social media.

Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues, attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.

This judgment has raised dust from several persons. However, the morality of the people of Americans will be measured by its acceptance or rejection.
