Controversies have continued to trail the the discovery of a monumental fraud of N6Million in the Sapele Gulf club; Delta state which is currently causing ripples among the Management of the club.


Ukpaka Reports investigations however revealed that the whooping sum was a donation made to the club by the State Ministry of Youths and Sports having given such gesture also to the Warri Club as the state contributions to the promotion and support of sports in the state.


Impeccable sources who confided in us disclosed that the scam was discovered by an executive member of the club who is romancing with the State Government at Asaba having discovered that its sister club the Warri Club had gotten the same donation as according to him the state government had pledged the donation to the Sapele Athletic Club.


According to our sources, the whooping N6 Million which was received by operators of the Golf without the knowledge of the club executive kept mute after diverting the huge money to a private account at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) instead of the club account at First Bank, Sapele.


The incident which is currently brewing crisis among the club officials and members, Ukpaka Reports gathered has attracted the attention of the monarch of Okpe kingdom, Orodje I. Gen Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd) who is said to be a patron of the club and has vowed to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion and to bring out the culprits to book.


It was observed that the Sapele Athlete Club is the oldest club in Nigeria , founded in 1880 before Ikoyi Club, Kaduna Club, Benin Club and others I Nigeria.


The incident has in the past few weeks attracted mixed reaction among the Club President and other executive suspected in the fraud as.


A dependable source at club's bank, First Bank, Sapele who confided in us revealed that the amount in the bank vault may not be complete as the sum of N2 million has been disbursed surreptitiously to the Sports Ministry officials to keep mute over the donation, while a large chunk of the amount is alleged to have gone round the hands of few members believed to be Cabals in the Golf section.


As the fraud continues to generate bad blood, top officials of the club are now in a dilemma over the matter which they described as dubious adding that by the constitution of the club no one is permitted to withdraw more than N2000.00 unless it passed through management.

The discovery is also generating serious controversies over the abandoned case of illegal sales of the club's generator by some executive to Life Flour Mills Company, Sapele without due process.
