ITA-GIWA, NOLLYWOOD STARS HONOUR JIM IYKE

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa and the honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, are among the eminent personalities expect to honour Nollywood Star actor, Jim Iyke for the N500 million child fund raising programmes he is organising for next month. Apart from these politicians, Jim's colleagues in the movie industry, Nollywood, have also shown interest in helping the Jim Iyke Foundation For Facially Deformed Children (JFDC) achieve its aim of raising money for the less privileged children.

Some of them who have promised their support for the project include, Peter Edochie, Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo, Bimbo Akintola, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Rita Dominic. According to Peter Edochie, “Jim has taken a very bold step at a particular time when our industry needs good initiatives towards a better Nigeria that is the father of Nollywood. So, in view of this, we his colleagues that appreciate good gesture have no choice than to support him.”

NollywoodReel gathered that the JFDC's eight-day programmes will begin from 9 December with a 5,000 Children Walk from the FCT minister's office (Area II, Garki) to Millennium Park in Abuja. It will end on 15 December with a fund raising concert at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Music acts that will perform at the concert are Rymzo, Weird MC, Ruggedman, African Chyna, Djinee, Felix Duker, Sammy Okposo and Faze, while their Ghanaian counterparts include, Batman, Bollie of 'You may kiss your bride' fame and Mezbel.

Speaking with NollywoodReel, Jim Iyke said that initiating a foundation that caters for facially deformed children is one of the biggest projects he has been nurturing from his childhood days. “You know, whenever I see these children, the idea of helping them normally comes to my mind. But it will only be more painful if I don't have the resources or avenue to help solve their problem,” he noted.
