The much anticipated 2016 edition of the Umu Oganiru Carnival kicked off on Friday, 16 December in Enugu, with a colourful street procession by various cultural dancing troupes and masquerade displays around the city of Enugu.

Starting from the Polo park, the procession moved through New Market, Kingsway Road, Old Park, Holy Ghost, Otigba Junction, New Heaven Junction, Abakpa Junction, Ogui Junction, Campus, with the ‘Progress Procession’ coming to a final stop at Polo Park. There were short stops at these popular places, as the dancers and masquerades entertained residents of the city who came out in droves to see the carnival train.

Speaking during the carnival, Mr. Funso Ayeni, Senior Brand Manager, Regional Mainstream Brands NB Plc, described the carnival as a celebration of the people of South-East Nigeria and their unique way of life. He emphasised that Life beer is not only supporting businesses in the region, but also promoting the cultural heritage of the people.

“After a very busy year of various activities, we are using this carnival to bring the festive season more alive in the East. There are lots of entertaining activities lined up for this carnival, but this procession is our direct platform to promote the culture of the people of the South East.”

Seven lucky entrepreneurs emerged winners of N250, 000 each from the Life Progress Booster show, an entrepreneurial talent hunt and mentoring radio programme targeted at innovative businessmen and women in the South east.

The first day of the carnival continued with a night show at the Polo Park where guests present were entertained with performances by an Atilogwu Dance Troupe as well as musicians, Tipsy Kelvano and Sunny Bobo.

Day 2 of the carnival continues today in Enugu with live performances from Zoro and headline act, Flavour N'abania.
