Another ailing actor, Tunde Alabi cries for help!

After losing veteran actor, Martins Njubuigbo, popularly known as Elder Maya to the cold hands of death last week, the Nigerian movie industry may suffer another terrible blow if nothing is done and fast too, to save a soul.

Veteran actor, Tunde Alabi is dying. He’s lying critically ill at the Lagos General hospital, and needs financial assistance to prevent one of his legs from being amputated.

When HVP visited him at Lagos General hospital earlier in the week, the ailing actor who was one of the regular characters in the now rested TV series, the ‘Village Headmaster’ looked worried and abandoned. There are indications that he may be evicted from the hospital any moment from now because he has no money to sustain his stay there. The actor, who now wears a badge on his left leg said, his condition became worse after he was diagnosed as suffering from diabetes.

Narrating his ordeal to HVP ,the ailing actor said, he was hale and hearty until the night of 19th of July, when he had a strange expulsion on his right leg which has not only kept the actor off the screen for sometime now, but also has impoverished him.

“I went to bed at about 8. 30 pm that fateful day with the intention of waking up at 1 am. When it was about 9 pm, I had a strange expulsion on my right leg. Immediately, the leg started burning and I screamed throughout the night. The following morning I couldn’t move the leg again. It was a spiritual attack. That’s what has kept me under this condition,” he narrated.

However, prior to this time, the ailing actor claimed he never knew that he had diabetes. In fact, it was after he was admitted at the hospital that he was diagnosed as suffering from diabetes. According to him, “for years, I never knew I was a diabetic patient,' he said.

On the amputation of his leg, the actor explained that the hospital management has not concluded on whether his leg would be amputated or not. Alabi, however, thanked some of his colleagues who have been supporting him financially. He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to his rescue, saying Ï don't want to die.”

Meanwhile, according to Paul Julius, a film maker and actor, who has been Alabi's pillar of strength, the ailing actor may be evicted from the hospital because of his inability to foot his medical bills. He said, he has been supporting him financially since he fell sick, and called on Nigerians to come to his rescue.

“Uncle Tunde Alabi has been on the acting scene since the glorious days of television drama in Nigeria and he's today one of the last of that octopus called The Village Headmaster, a television drama that was the in – thing in its days on National Television.

His role in the now rested soap opera 'Palace' produced by Ralph Nwadike was one that viewers will not forget in haste. He has done his part in bringing happiness to many homes within and outside the shores of the country and he deserves to live,” he said.
