Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with civil society organizations in Madagascar

The Secretary-General met yesterday with representatives of several Malagasy civil society organizations active in various areas, including human rights, youth and women empowerment.

The Secretary-General highlighted the importance of the partnership between the United Nations and civil society organizations, noting that they were the voice of the people.

The Secretary-General expressed concern over the human rights situation in Madagascar and encouraged the Malagasy civil society organizations to continue its advocacy for the establishment the High Court of Justice and the operationalization of the National Human Rights Commission.

The Secretary-General also encouraged the organizations to work toward the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

He reiterated his full support to Malagasy civil society organizations and expressed his appreciation for their work.
