Didier Reynders worried about the resurgence of targeted killings in Burundi

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is concerned about the resurgence of targeted killings in recent weeks in Burundi. Many of these attacks targeted senior officials of the National Defence Forces and the police.

Violence, wherever it comes from, is unacceptable and brings the country further away from a negotiated solution to the current crisis. These attacks show the urgency of resuming the dialogue under international mediation. Only an unconditional and inclusive dialogue, with the real protagonists of the crisis, will allow a way out of the current situation. Didier Reynders welcomes in this context the organization by facilitator Benjamin Mkapa of an inter-Burundian dialogue meeting from 2 to 5 May in Arusha, Tanzania.
