Date Night goes desperately wrong in the film
Romantic comedy Date Night, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey has gone straight to the top of the UK and Ireland box office.

The movie, which tells the tale of a bored married couple whose date night turns into an unexpected adventure, took £1.2m in its opening weekend.

Dear John, last week's number one, fell three places to number four.

In second place was Clash Of The Titans, with animated family movie How To Train Your Dragon coming third.

Revenge
British superhero movie Kick-Ass, which stars Nicolas Cage, rounded off the top five with tickets sales totalling £635,270 this weekend. UK TOP FIVE FILMS

Roman Polanski's The Ghost was a non-mover at number six this week, followed by new release It's A Wonderful Afterlife.

Gurinder Chadha's latest outing is about an Indian mother who takes the ultimate revenge on families who reject her efforts to marry off her daughter.

The film, which stars Golden Globe-winner Sally Hawkins, My Family star Zoe Wanamaker and East Is East actor Jimi Mistry, took £464,468 in its opening weekend.

Nanny McPhee And the Big Bang fell from number five to eighth place and Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland was at number nine.

Demi Moore's latest film The Joneses debuted at number 10 with takings of £247,178.
