FIRE WRECKS HAVOC AT MUHAMMADU ABUBAKAR RIMI MARKET KANO

Many shops have been destroyed and proerties worth Billions of naira destroyed at Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi market following a fire outbreak. The fire according a trader, Isma'il Sabitu started at about 12:23 am on Friday night and consumed many shops around the shoes, chemical, Gold and insecticide parts of the market completely, with two bank branches Unity bank and first Bank and provisions sections of the market, popularly knwon as Gidan Maggi. Our correspondent Abubakar Haruna Galadanchi who visited the market around 08:35, saw that the fire officilas were still battling with the infenor as it continues escalating to other sections.

Fire fighting vehicles from private companies have been deployed to the market to join the state fire service

officials in quenching the fire. So far, no fewer than 3000 shops were completely destroyed, Traders were seen evacuating the remainants of their items and goods that have not been affected by the fire while thieves are using the opportunity to loot peoples wares.

Meanwhile, Security has been deployed and beefed up in and around the market to prevent hoodlums from

looting traders' properties. Policemen, civil defense personel and members of vigilante group were stationed at various entrances to the market.
