A few months ago, John Dumelo had come to Grand Bassam in Ivory Coast where some four balaclava-clad gunmen sprayed bullets indiscriminately and killed 16 people last week. The four al Qaeda gunmen who killed these people were seen drinking beer at a beach side bar just moments before going on their deadly shooting rampage. They had arrived in a car at the beach side bar. Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb's (AQIM) has claimed responsible for this attack.

The attack has raised questions about Ivory Coast's preparedness for such an attack, with some asking why such a sensitive target was left so vulnerable. These unanswered questions have made the actor advocate for team work from everyone and said if we have to stop this terrorism from spreading beyond control in that part of the world, we should stop the blame.

Dumelo said“As part of filming my tourism show, I passed by Grand Bassam in Ivory Coast a few months ago. Grand Bassam is where the terrorists attacked some people over the weekend. It's sad. It's sad because even with advanced security in US and France, the terrorists managed to attack in San Bernardino and in Paris. One of the most efficient ways to stopping “them” is being each other's keeper. Let's all have a 3rd eye for unusual and suspicious activity around us. This is not the time to play the blame game. “They” can't take away our freedom! God bless Africa!”.

President Alassane Ouattara, had declared three days of mourning for the country, he said about the terrorists "They didn't speak French. They spoke Arabic. We communicated with them in English. The guys who were still outside started shooting and the two seated at the table yelled 'Allahu Akbar' and flipped over the table."
