POOR PARTICIPATION MARS LAGOS ECONOMIC SUMMIT

By NBF NEWS

Poor turnout of international and local participants has marred the Lagos State 5th Economic Summit, which opened on Tuesday in Lagos.

Officials of the state government told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos that the participants were unable to attend the summit due to international aviation challenges.

They said that the Iceland volcanic eruption, which caused ash to spread across European airspace, prevented the participants from flying in for the summit, tagged: Ehigbeti 2010.

The disruption of flights worldwide, they said, also made it impossible for Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and the lead speaker, Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, to attend the summit.

The keynote address credited to Collier on Tuesday at the event was actually a video presentation of his speech for the summit.
