Benue State At 40: Group Sues For Unity, Peace

The Benue Elites Development Network ‎(BENNETWORK) has called on the citizens of the state to tow the part of peace and unity for the development of the state.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the organisation‎, Comrade Omaga Elachi Daniel, the organization noted that, for the state to emerge from her present status quo with regards to infrastructural and economic development, the volatile peace in some parts of the state especially Agatu local government area, which witnessed a renewed herdsmen/farmers clash, citizens and other inhabitants within the state must learn to tolerate one another for peaceful coexistence.

Comrade Omaga stressed that‎ "Peace and Unity remain the rudiments of any meaningful development in the society, therefore Benue indigenes and visitors must rise above every form of divide and move the state forward. It is high time the Benue state government and her counterpart in Nasarawa state provided a lasting solution to this reoccurring crisis".

The organization also condemned the Jungle justice meted on an okada thief in Aliade yesterday. They stated that while they are completely against any form of criminality, Benue youths must remain law abiding by reporting such cases to the appropriate authorities instead of taking laws into their own hands. They called on the state governor to investigate the case thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to book so as to nip in the mud any future occurrence of such barbaric acts.

Speaking further, Comrade Omaga called on the Benue State Government to drive masses friendly‎ policies and create jobs for the teeming youths so they can become more useful to the society instead of engaging in criminal activities.
