Unusual calm now pervades the premises of the National Council of Arts and Culture, NCAC, housing the blocks of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Iganmu, Lagos. For sometime now there has been all kinds of accusations and counter accusations fired at the Lagos chapter and the National leadership of the Guild led by popular actor Zack Orji. Not too long ago, from all indications some of the Lagos officials where seen in the “Open” throwing verbal “punches” at each other why the union has not been able to make any headway since the inception of Zack Orji's tenure, after Emma Oguguah was booted out. But last week, as expected, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Guild had to convene an emergency meeting to overhaul the tenure and after its findings and deliberations, the NWC, made up of mostly past AGN presidents and members of the Board of Trustees decided to impeach the leadership of Zack Orji. “That serves him right if it's true. What have they been doing since they took over. All they know is pay for this form and all that. Nobody genuinely cares for the progress of the Nigerian actors or actress” Sandra Igwe, upcoming actress and AGN member said.

Zack Orji was toppled simply because of alleged incompetence and lack of focus. They cited the recent ban on home video super stars as a great insult to all AGN members which Zack Orji allegedly could not manage properly. “They were actually sacked for incompetence. How can we have an AGN and film marketers, traders coming out to sanction our own actors without consultations? What is the business of marketers to be the one to discipline actors when AGN is there? It is because the AGN we have is a toothless bulldog” Bassey Akpa, an AGN member remarked.

At the moment, it is not very clear who is the new president of AGN. But sources say ace actor Sam Loco Efe has been chosen to run the affairs of the union until an election is held. Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, President, Fidelis Dukar wholly avowed that he knew that there were crises in the AGN house, but denied knowledge that Zack Orji had been toppled. “I'm just hearing this for the first time. I know there are crises in the ranks of the AGN but I didn't know he has been removed as president”, Fidelis Duker answered.

Meanwhile, it is gathered that the impeached AGN president Zack Orji and the Association of Movie Practitioners, AMP president, Madu Chikwendu are in South Africa attending to matters affecting Nigeria movie producers.
