Press Statement John Kerry Secretary of State Washington, DC October 2, 2015

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Guinea as you commemorate 57 years of independence on October 2. The United State values the partnership with Guinea. We recognize the progress Guinea has made, especially in the fight against Ebola, and see the upcoming national elections as an opportunity to further strengthen Guinea's commitment to an inclusive and peaceful democracy. We remain committed to working with the government and people of Guinea to support economic development, strengthen democratic institutions, and reinforce our joint effort to counter the spread of the Ebola virus disease in West Africa. On this joyous holiday, I send best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous future.
