Diva, songstress, singer–songwriter, rapper, producer and actress, Lauryn Hill has apologised to her fans in Nigeria after she failed to land in the country for her much publicised May Day Concert.

Hill, a former member of music group, Fugees, said she would reschedule her trip to Lagos, Nigeria because she looks forward to honouring all tickets sold by the promoter.

In a statement issued on her website, she wrote: “Hello Lagos, Nigeria! We are disappointed to report that we will not be performing at tonight's concert. From our end, we did everything we were supposed to do, including waiting at the airport for many hours, ready to fly out and share the evening with you.”

“Unfortunately, after much effort, the promoter was not able to get all of our travel arrangements taken care of. This prevented us from being able to fly into Nigeria in time to make the concert.

“We were all very excited to come, and very disappointed that we couldn't make this one. HOWEVER, we are working to reschedule our appearance ASAP. From what we've been told, the promoter intends to honor all tickets sold. Our best to and for Lagos. Love and Blessings!,” the statement read.

With the fugees, she became an international item but when the group split (Wyclef Jean and Pras were the other members of the group), Lauryn went solo and released The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998.

The album remains Hill's only solo studio album. It received massive critical acclaim, showcasing a representation of life and relationships and locating a contemporary womanist voice within the neo soul genre.

The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and has sold approximately eight million copies there. It included the singles “Doo Wop (That Thing)” (also a number one), “Ex-Factor”, and “Everything Is Everything”.

At the 41st Grammy Awards, the record earned her five awards, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist. She won numerous other awards and became a common sight on the cover of magazines.
