Akwa Ibom Teachers Throw their Weight Behind Udom Emmanuel
Teachers in Akwa Ibom State have joined the swelling support base of the Mr Udom Emmanuel, the PDP governorship candidate in the State and have expressed the confidence that his emergence will bring about an improved working environment for Teachers.
Under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Akwa Ibom State chapter, the teachers said they were impressed with the development blueprint of Mr Udom Emmanuel for the State and will not hesitate to mobilize their colleagues to support his emergence as next governor.
The teachers led by the State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Etim Ukpong, after listening to Udom Emmanuel’s programme for the state, rose and chant solidarity songs before declaring a voice vote to his support.
Comrade Ukpong maintained that it was the first time a governorship candidate would come to the teachers to discuss his development programmes for the State.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governorship hopeful had assured that education shall remain the priority sector for his administration and described teaching as the foundation of life.
Mr Emmanuel commended Governor Akpabio for his investments in Education as a means of tackling crime and poverty, adding that the free and qualitative education programme has attracted him commendations from all over the world.
He said that Governor Akpabio was able to channel 80percent of funds under the interministerial direct labour coordinating committee into school projects which makes public schools in the State to be equipped with the best facilities in the country.
Udom said that as an offspring of teacher parents, he was abreast with their challenges and was therefore passionate about teachers’ welfare and benefits.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Unyime Usoro said he was not surprised by the endorsement as the labour force in the state had in their 2015 summit earlier this year thrown its entire weight to Udom Emmanuel.
