Self-Acclaimed Governor Amaechi’s Tamer, Joseph Mbu Redeployed To Lagos

Yesterday, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, the police authorities in Nigeria announced the redeployment of controversial police officer, Joseph Mbu, alongside 27 other AIGs to some police formations in the country.

Mr. Mbu, who before now was in charge of Zone 7, which covers Abuja and its neighbouring states was posted to Zone 2 in Lagos.

A statement by the police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the redeployment of Mr. Mbu and the other AIGs is part of the reorganization of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the redeployment to various departments, Zonal commands and formations of the Force with immediate effect.

The police IG, Abba Suleiman, charged the newly promoted officers to be more service-oriented in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities as well urged the public to partner closely with the force in its determination to ensure improved safety and security in Nigeria.

Mr. Mbu, a self-acclaimed 'lion' that tamed Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, who he once referred to as 'tiger', was the Rivers State Police Commissioner until February 2014, when he was posted to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

In Abuja, he was promoted to the rank of AIG in August 2014.

His stay in Rivers pitched him against Amaechi, who accused him of doing the bidding of Patience Jonathan, wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, and attempting to hijack the control of the state.

While in Abuja as the police boss in the city, Mr. Mbu got into controversies when he first banned protests demanding the release over the 200 Chibok school girls abducted by Boko Haram, and later arresting an AIT journalist, Amaechi Anakwe, for calling him 'controversial' on his programme.

It would be recalled that some days ago, Mr. Mbu described himself as a rebel with a good cause, and threatened to “bring down” any community that kills a police personnel.
