PDP SUMMONS MINISTERS OVER STEWARDSHIP

By NBF NEWS

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned all ministers that are members of the party to appear before it and account for their stewardship, THISDAY can report.

In this regard, Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Resources, Dr. Sayyadi Abba Ruma, and Power and Steel Development, Dr. Lanre Babalola, are expected to appear before the party's National Working Committee (NWC) today.

PDP sources said the essence of the summon is for the ministers to account for their stewardship and brace up where necessary as the 2011 elections draw near

According to one of the sources, 'we are summoning the ministers that are members of the party to start appearing before the NWC as from tomorrow (today)'.

The source further explained, 'The aim of this summon is for them to account before the party on their level of stewardship. Election year is gradually around the corner. We cannot keep quiet. We must know what they are doing, so that we can be able to tell the electorate what they have done, when we go on campaigns.'

THISDAY checks reveal that PDP is worried that some of the ministers are idle and are under-performing.

'We want to know how the ministers have gone so far in implementing the seven-point agenda. We want to know as from tomorrow, what plans and actions, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Resources has taken to ensure that there is enough food to feed the teeming population of this country.

Also, the source said of the Minister of Power and Steel Development, 'we will ask him what he is doing to ensure that we meet the target set by government. We shall further ask the minister when the country will hit the 6,000 megawatts of electricity because election year is at the corner'.

He explained that this account for the stewardship was another way of assessing the seven-point agenda of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.
