The political crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly worsened Tuesday night following the attack on Hon. Rasak Momoh by thugs suspected to be loyal to All Progressives Congress (APC).

There were conflicting reports on the condition of the lawmaker who was reportedly rushed to the University of Benin Teaching hospital, Benin. One account claimed he didn't survive the attack.

Momoh, who recently dumped APC for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was allegedly attacked by hordes of armed thugs reportedly led by Hon. Phillip Shuaib.

Momoh represents Etsako 1 constituency, with Shuiab representing Etsako 2, constituency of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Eyewitnesses told Pointblanknews.com that dangerous weapons such as axes, machetes and cudgels were said to have stormed Momoh's house in the legislators' quarters and unleashed terror on the lawmaker.

“It was like a war zone. They must have been about 20 of them. We saw Shuiab leading them and chanting war songs, threatening to deal with Momoh for embarrassing Governor Oshiomhole. We had to run for dear lives,” a lawmaker told Pointblanknews.com on the telephone.

Pointblanknews.com could not get the hospital to comment on the lawmaker's condition.

Lately, Rasak had squared up against APC, his former party.

He had recently accused the party of forging his signature as a member of the APC faction of the assembly. The result of police investigation is due this week.

Razak's defection had reportedly upset Governor Oshiomhole, who had often called the lawmaker “my brother.”
