…insists on zoning in Rivers PDP governorship primaries

A foremost youth group, Rivers PDP Third Force Movement commends the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for constituting committees to assist in integrating all the different tendencies in the Party, particularly in Rivers State where the hegemonic and divisive influences of Prince Uche Secondus, Nyesom Wike and Felix Obuah are threatening to tear the Rivers PDP apart. The group enjoins all to support the Committee coming to Port Harcourt, led by the eminent Prof Iya Abubakar, to find the truth about the long sufferings of members of the PDP in Rivers State. In a release signed by the General Secretary, Oprite Amachree, it was stated that “the constitution of committees by our great Party's National Leadership to examine the causes of the crises in the Rivers State chapter proves that our national leaders are sensitive to the yearnings of the people. The impending visit by the Prof Iya Abubakar led committee to Rivers State will help to calm the fears of the Party faithful who have been vigorously clamouring for a solution to the impasse caused by the inordinate gubernatorial ambition of Nyesom Wike.”

The group also commended the National Leadership of the Party for affirming the Zoning Arrangements for contestants vying to become the flag bearer of the party in the upcoming Adamawa State Governorship elections and chided Felix Obuah for going against this fundamental principle of the PDP when they announced recently that there would be no zoning in any elections in Rivers State. The group noted that “all the candidates who stepped down from the Adamawa State Governorship PDP Primaries are from the Adamawa Central Senatorial District that is yet to produce a governor of the State and in line with PDP Constitution they stepped down as it will be their turn in 2015. How can the so-called Rivers PDP EXCO now say that there is no zoning in Rivers State? Is this not an affront on the National Leadership? Or is Nyesom Wike, Prince Secondus and Obuah bigger than the PDP?” Mr Amachree stated that “this is fairness and equity in action as is usually the practice with the PDP and urged the Party to insist on the zoning principle in the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries in Rivers State to guarantee total electoral victory in 2015”, while noting that the riverine areas of Rivers State as well as the Rivers South East Senatorial District have not produced a governor since the inception of this democratic dispensation.
