Rivers new council boss forces open his office

By The Citizen

The newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Lawrence Chukwu forced his way into his office as he surprisingly found out that it was under lock and key.

Chuku, who was among that recently inaugurated as the new council boss in Obio/Akpor by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, found out on his arrival to assume duty shortly after inaugurating his committee members that the door leading to the chairman's office was locked by the outgone chairman, Mr. Timothy Nsirim.

A source informed our correspondent that the angry new chairman directed that the door be forced open and it was immediately forced open by some of the youths that streamed to the Obio/Akpor Council Secretariat to witness the inauguration of the caretaker committee.

It will be recalled that the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, had last week dissolved 21 out of the 23 local government councils, leaving out Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Degema local Government Council, which recently held council elections.

'Some people boasted few days ago they would not leave the council secretariat. But today, we are here and have taken over all the offices. By the powers conferred on me, I hereby announce the dissolution of all market and revenue committees. Today, Obio/Akpor has been returned to the rightful owners,' Chuku said.
