Proceedings at the ongoing National Conference was adjourned after less than an hour sitting on Wednesday following the death of the wife of the Chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi early this morning.

Delegates will now resume to continue debates on the reports of their various committees on Monday, 2 June, since tomorrow is a public holiday.

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, Vice Chairman of National Conference, announced the sad news of the death of 70 year-old Maryam to delegates on resumption of plenary on Wednesday.

Akinyemi informed the delegates that the eminent jurist's wife was hospitalised at National Hospital for sometime before her death.

He noted that Justice Kutigi, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, did not allow the sickness of his wife to affect his work at the conference.

Akinyemi also told delegates that there would be prayers for the deceased at the National Mosque later today after which she will be interred.
