Fayemi Must Apologise Over Claim That PDP Rigged 2009 Rerun Election—PDP Chieftain

By Lere Olayinka

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mr Lati Ajijola has demanded a public apology from the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) over claim that the PDP rigged the 2009 rerun governorship election in Ido/Osi Local Government.

Ajijola, who also called for fresh investigations into the burning of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ido/Osi Local government, added that; "Now that the Fayemi and his APC have admitted that Ido/Osi Local Government was PDP stronghold since 1998, it behoves on Fayemi and his party to also admit that they lied that PDP rigged the 2009 rerun election in Ido/Osi Local Government and apologise to the people."

The Spokesperson of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji

Daniels, had said in a statement issued on Wednesday that; "Ido-Osi Local Government where Segun Oni hails from had been the only stronghold of the PDP in Ekiti since 1999 when Nigeria returned to civil rule. With the defection of Oni, Ido/Osi is now a stronghold of the APC, leaving the PDP lifeless in the only local government it had ever held sway in Ekiti State."

However, in a release issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Ajijola, who is a stalwart of the PDP in Ado-Ekiti said; "Having now admitted that Ido/Osi Local Government was PDP stronghold, Fayemi must be honest enough to also tell Ekiti people how they got the INEC office in Ido-Ekiti burnt and how they got the Justice Isa Ayo Salami led Appeal Court to cancel Usi-Ekiti and Ifaki-Ekiti votes."

Ajijola said further, "Fayemi and his APC must tell Nigerians why they went to court to challenge results of 2007 election and 2009 rerun election in Ido/Osi Local government since they knew that Ido/Osi Local Government was PDP stronghold? How were they able to get the court to cancel Ido/Osi Local Government twice?

"Isn't this a pointer to the fact that Fayemi's men were the ones who set the Ido/Osi Local Government INEC on fire? Or could the PDP have destroyed election materials in its stronghold?

"Also, isn't this a pointer to the fact that the noise made by the APC people on the then INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Ayoka Adebayo was not in good faith?

"Definitely, more truths will still come out from these bunch of hypocrites in the APC, who are only after their selfish interests and are always ready to cook up anything to achieve their goals."
