SAN FRANCISCO, March 27, (THEWILL) - A Federal High Court, Lagos, presided over by Justice Saliu Saidu has directed the Lagos State Government to stop the tolling on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge, saying the imposition of toll on users was illegal since public funds were used to construct the bridge.

In his Thursday ruling in a suit instituted by a civil rights attorney, Mr.

Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, against the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Inland Waterways Authority, the Lagos State Government and the state Attorney-General, Justice Saidu held that there was no basis for the public-private partnership arrangement which was adduced as the justification for the unpopular tolling.

Adegboruwa had sued claiming that tolling on the bridge violated the rights of users particularly the residents of Lekki Scheme 1, Ikoyi, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe communities.

The Lagos State Government would likely appeal the ruling.
