SSS Seizes Sanusi Lamido's Passport

Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) Thursday afternoon seized the international passport of the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido.

President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday morning suspended Sanusi and appointed the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele in his stead.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Sanusi heard of his suspension in Niamey, capital of Niger Republic, while attending a conference of Governors of Central Banks of West African sub-region.

On the advice of friends, Pointblanknews.com further gathered, the suspended bank chief jetted into Lagos, instead of Abuja.

However, on touchdown at the Murtala Muhammed Internal airport. Lagos, Sanusi was accosted by SSS officials. He was briefly questioned and his passport seized.

A security source offered that Sanusi's passport was seized to prevent him from traveling abroad and possibly say things that might embarrass the government.

The source added that Sanusi's suspension may not be unconnected with his breach of the official secrets' Act.

On hand to receive Sanusi at Lagos was his former deputy , Ms. Sarah Alade, a former minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, among other top CBN officials.
