BEVERLY HILLS, February 05, (THEWILL) - As registration of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) began throughout the country on Wednesday, the party said it hopes to register nothing less than 400, 000 members in Borno State during the exercise.

And to achieve this, the party said it is engaging the services of security agencies in all the troubled Local Government Areas of the state to provide security for prospective members of the party.

Disclosing this in a chat with newsmen in Maiduguri on Wednesday, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mohammed Auwal Hamza, said the party is targeting a total of 100 registered members from each of the 4,000 polling units.

"There are about 4,000 polling units in Borno and the party guidelines give room for registration of 100 members or at most 150 in each of the polling units," he said.

Hamza said the state interim committee of the party and the registration exercise committee have trained a total of 200 people to train others at the Local Government level.

He disclosed that they are expected to supervise the registration exercise.

He however disclosed that the initial constraints of timing and lists of trainees from the Local Governments delayed the take-off of the exercise as he assured that everything would go on smoothly as planned with time.

On the challenges of insecurity in some Local Governments, the party chief said arrangements had been made with security agencies and caretaker chairmen of the 27 Local Governments to tackle this.

"We won't have difficulty in conducting the exercise in such areas because we have already liaised with the Local Government chairmen who will ensure adequate security in these areas," he said.
