NLC to build 1,000 houses for workers in Taraba

Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Mark Ishaku Taraba chapter, on Wednesday said that the union had begun the building of 1,000 houses for civil servants in the state.

Ishaku said that about 80 hectares of land was acquired for the project which would be completed in two years.

He said that the project, cited in Kona area of Jalingo, would be effectively monitored by the unions Housing Committee.

During an inspecting tour of the project, the NLC chairman said that 'these 1,000 houses are the first set of the 5,000 housing units we plan to build'.

'Only members who contribute to the unions National Housing Scheme will be eligible for allocation of the houses.''

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ishaku had announced that the union would embark on the building of 5,000 houses for workers in the state.

Mr Fred Esioma, the Project Manager of Ecinot Nigeria Ltd., the company handling the project, promised to complete the project on schedule and in line with the contract specification. (NAN)
