The local govt. bye-elections conducted last weekend in ONELGA was a flop as just few people turned out to cast their votes. This was as a result of a prominent Chief and cultural musician burial activities in the town which attendance cannot be compromised. The occasion which drew the presence of the Oba of Ogbaland and his council of Chiefs, Head of clans in and out of the town, ex- local govt. boss and top govt. officials left the polling units without voters. Niger Delta Standard reporter who closely monitored the election in each ward and units confirmed that some ballot boxes were empty and as few voters who showed up were seen thumb printing on a particular party logo which is not the ruling party's. Despite the poor turn out at the polls, there was violence in ward 4, Usomini, with the ONELGA JTF battling with some PDP youth who hijacked and tore some voting materials. Even after the burial of the renowned Chief which lasted till 3:00pm, no one was seen at the polling units as the INEC officials conducting the elections had already called it a day. The question is how did the PDP won in all the wards? When it is obvious that the election was a total flop.
