PDP Inaugurates Kwara State Caretaker Committee.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that there is no

imposition in the party, just as it solidified its hold of the Kwara State

party machinery with the inauguration of a caretaker committee to manage

the affairs of the party following last years defection of the governor,

Abdulfatah Ahmed to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC).

The party also waved off the defection of 27 Sokoto State House of

Assembly members to the APC, saying it would attract 100 times more

members into the party.
These were disclosed by the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga

Tukur, after he inaugurated the Kwara State PDP caretaker committee at the

national headquarters of the party in Abuja on Thursday.

The inauguration of Sokoto State caretaker committee was supposed to hold

same day but it was postponed.
Tukur said “this is democracy in action where freedom of choice is

entrenched. First of all the process is starting to ensure a foundation

which the PDP always talk about, foundation of democracy start with the

process of election, not selection, process of consensus after agreement,

not imposition. That is what the PDP stand for. Democracy not

dictatorship.
“I feel happy today that Kwara like any other state will now go back again

and get the mandate of the electorate to bring together our party

executive to take care of Kwara State” he said.
Commenting on the defection in Sokoto State Tukur stated “they have

already left when the governor left. When 27 people leave, 270,000 would

come in. This is democracy is by election. If few had left many would come

in.”
Explaining the shelving of PDP Sokoto State caretaker committee, Tukur

said “that is democracy. They are trying to again talk to themselves and

they are coming later in the day. They are all ready.”

On his part, the chairman of the caretaker committee in Kwara State,

Solomon Edoja, promised the leadership of PDP that the party would retain

the governorship of the state in 2015.
He said with the defection of the governor and other members of the party,

the party and state is free from bondage.
